Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems as well as an increase in demand worldwide.

Our service provides private ADHD adjustment instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly skilled consultant psychiatrist will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your ADHD. This will include a medical history and an assessment using the standard ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your evaluation, you will be informed if medication would be beneficial for your particular situation. This will be discussed at your follow-up appointment (which can be done in person, via video link or by telephone). Your physician will explain to you what is titration in adhd medication options are available and if you decide to begin taking medication, we will suggest titrating the dose to maximize the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This is a process which could take a few weeks and involves adjusting the dosage of your child's medication gradually until the proper balance is reached. It is not uncommon to to titrate as high as three different medications until you discover the one that is most suitable for your child's ADHD. It's important for parents to be involved in this titration process, and keep an watchful eye on their child's behavior, so that they can inform the doctor whether the medication is working or causing side effects.

If you decide to return to NHS treatment you will receive a private prescription for your medication. You will have to pay for your prescription at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation fee. You'll need to keep up with your appointments every six months to monitor your medications. This includes pulse and blood pressure measurements. Annual reviews are also mandatory.

Follow-up appointments

Once the evaluation has been completed, you'll be able to make follow up appointments with your psychiatrist, if necessary. The appointment is typically conducted by video conference using zoom. However, in certain cases, it may be possible to have an audio-only appointment to be conducted (again at an additional cost).

At this point, we will discuss any treatment options we have and come up with a unique ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include a review and discussion of your dosage of medication and any adverse effects you may be experiencing. The cost for these titration sessions is PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 for telephone or online video consultations. The cost of medication is additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The doctor will also ask you about your family background and the impact your ADHD symptoms can have on your life, as well as any issues with relationships you may be experiencing or other mental health problems that you might be experiencing. ADHD is a genetic condition, which is why it's crucial to examine your family history to determine if you are at a higher chance of developing this disorder.

It is important that you are honest and open to the doctor during the assessment, since the information they get will be used to determine whether your ADHD is in line with the diagnostic criteria. This is an essential step in the process, as failing to do so could lead to an inaccurate diagnosis and therefore inappropriate prescribing of medication.

If you've decided you would like to be treated for your ADHD, we will then set up a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists that specialize in this field. This can be scheduled at the time of your diagnosis if are keen to begin treatment immediately or within two weeks if you prefer to take time to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the options that are available to you.

We suggest that if are unsure about your preferences, you speak with your GP prior to scheduling your private examination. Some providers have different guidelines regarding whether or not they require a GP letter. Make sure that your GP accepts a Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them when you leave the clinic for prescription medication.

Medication

For many people who want a private diagnosis of ADHD, medication is an important aspect of their journey. The process of getting prescriptions from an NHS psychiatrist can be difficult and time-consuming. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long, and GPs might be reluctant to refer their patients to specialist services.

One method to circumvent this is to ask your GP to refer you to Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can choose a service who offers an assessment that is private and the titration. This will help you to save time and also be more convenient, especially in the event of a hectic work schedule.

If you are identified as a candidate for this treatment your chosen doctor will examine you and decide whether or not you need to be adjusted on your medication. You will be asked to fill in forms that differ by doctor but the main ones are self-report questionnaires as well as medical histories from childhood and adulthood. These forms will assist your doctor to determine if there are any circumstances that indicate you shouldn't take ADHD medication, if they have been prescribed.

If you are being titrated, the medication will be a combination stimulants and nonstimulant medicines. These will be carefully assessed and monitored to determine the right combination for you. The titration process may be lengthy and may require some additional appointments before you are stable on your dosage.

Based on the type of medication you're taking, follow up appointments will be either monthly or quarterly. Your clinician will check whether you are stable on the medication, note any adverse reactions you have experienced and make any needed adjustments to ensure that you remain on a safe dosage. You will be required to attend an annual review as well as a routine health exam that includes pulse, blood pressure, and weight measurements.

Some patients may be content with their medication and do not have to discuss their titration further. If you're looking to discuss your titration or treatment plan more thoroughly it is possible that you'll be referred to the private clinic who made your initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration consultation will be included in the consultation fee and they will receive their medication on private prescription (see Consultation fees above). This can cost more than an NHS prescription since the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
