Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medication that helps to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and an increased global demand.

Our service is private ADHD treatment instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our fees for assessments include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly experienced consultant psychiatrist will conduct a thorough evaluation of your ADHD. This includes a complete medical history, and an evaluation using the common ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your examination, you will be informed if medication would be beneficial for your particular situation. This will be discussed at your follow-up appointment (which can be scheduled in person by video link, in person or by telephone). Your clinician will explain what medication options are available and, if you choose to start on medication we will offer to titrate the dose to optimise the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process may take a few weeks and it involves gradually altering your child's dosage until the right balance is reached. It is not uncommon to to adjust up to three different medications until you discover the one that best suits your child's ADHD. It's important for parents to be involved in this titration process and keep an eye on their child's behaviour so that they can let the doctor know whether the medication is working or causing side effects.

If you decide to return to NHS treatment you will receive a private prescription for your medication. You will have to pay the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation fee. You will be required to attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication. This includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual exams are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment is completed after the assessment is completed, you can make appointment with the psychiatrist. The appointment usually takes place via a zoom video call, although in certain cases it may be possible to do an audio-only consultation (again at an additional cost).

At this point, we will discuss any treatment options and agree upon a bespoke individualised ADHD medication titration plan. This will include a review and discussion of your medication dose, as well as any side effects you might be experiencing. These titrations cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 via telephone or video consultation. The cost of medication is additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The doctor will also ask you about your family history and options the impact your ADHD symptoms impact your life, as well as any issues with your relationships that you may be facing or any other mental health issues you may be suffering from. This is because ADHD is a genetic condition and it is crucial to look into any family history that might indicate that you're at risk of developing the disorder.

During this examination, it is vital that you are honest and honest with your doctor who will be using the information you provide to determine if you meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is a crucial step because a wrong diagnosis could result in a prescription for medication that is not appropriate.

If you decide to seek treatment for ADHD, we'll arrange a follow-up appointment with a psychiatrist who specializes in this field. This can be done in the wake of your diagnosis if you are keen to begin treatment immediately, or within two weeks if you prefer to take time to consider the implications of your diagnosis and the options available to you.

We suggest that if are unsure of your preferences, talk to your GP prior to booking your private assessment. Certain providers have different policies regarding whether or not they require the submission of a GP letter. Make sure that your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means that you will be referred to them once you leave the clinic to get a medication prescription.

Medication

For many people who seek a private diagnosis of ADHD, medication is a key element of their treatment. Getting an appointment with an NHS psychiatrist can be a challenge and long-winded. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long and GPs can be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Asking your GP to refer through Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry - UK and ADHD 360). You can choose a service that offers an assessment that is private and the titration. This will cut down your waiting time by a significant amount and is more convenient if you are working and have a full schedule.

Once you've been recommended, your physician will assess your condition to determine if you require medication adjustment. You will be asked to fill out forms that differ by doctor but the main ones are self-report questionnaires and medical histories from childhood to adulthood. These will help your clinician identify any factors that might suggest you should not take ADHD medications if they're prescribed.

If you are titrated on medication, it is likely to include a mix of stimulants and non-stimulant medications. They will be examined and monitored to determine the most suitable combination for you. The titration can be long and may require a number of additional appointments before your dose is stable.

Based on the type of medication you're taking, follow up appointments can be scheduled either monthly or quarterly. Your clinician will check that you are stable with the medication, document any adverse reactions you've experienced, and make any necessary adjustments to ensure you remain on a safe dose. You will be required to attend an annual health check-up and routine health exam that includes pulse, blood pressure and weight measurements.

For some, it may be that they are satisfied with their medication and don't require an additional discussion regarding their titration. If you need to discuss your titration plan or treatment plan more thoroughly, it is possible that you'll be sent to the private clinic who performed your initial assessment. In this instance, the titration will be included in the consultation fee. The medication will be provided through a private prescription. This can cost more than an NHS prescription as the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
