By testing the deadbolt, you can quickly determine whether your locks have misaligned. To test the latch, apply red lipstick on the edge of the deadbolt. The handle should be able to return to its upright position when you turn the key. Alternatively, you can remove the strike plate to check whether the latch is properly aligned.

You can also look at the gap between the door and the frame to determine if it's misaligned. If the gap between the frame and the door is greater than half an inch, it's likely that your lock is not aligned correctly.

An Allen key can be used to adjust door frame fixings. Once the fixings are in place and tightened, put them in place and tighten them. However, don't tighten them too much, or the door will sag.

It is a good idea to apply lubricant to the lock, especially if you have a heavily covered door. This will lessen the pressure on the locking mechanism and prevent it from breaking.
