Customers can place orders and receive the delivery of pantry items, groceries fresh produce, deli goods, meats, dairy, natural and organic foods as well as prepared meals, school and office items, personal care products and alcohol in specific markets. Customers can also collect their orders at more than 200 Peapod pickup locations, the majority of which are attached to Ahold USA-owned brick and mortar stores like Stop & Shop.

Peapod utilizes data to determine shoppers' favorite brands and items which allows the online retailer to suggest similar items. It also lets shoppers see all the items in their cart at a glance and then use filters to narrow the results. Because shopping for groceries is a habit-driven practice, the Skokie company, based in Illinois, uses data to predict what products the shopper would buy and push these items to the top of the list.

The service is based on its drivers, which are also referred to as brand ambassadors. Bienkowski explained to Food Dive that food is an emotional experience. Being able to interact directly with the person delivering the order makes it more enjoyable and convenient.
