In the past, Amazon has invested in infrastructure and expanded their offerings. In the year 2018, Amazon Fresh was launched. Although online grocery shopping isn't yet at a point of saturation in the US however, it is a growing trend for consumers who want to save the inconvenience of driving to the supermarket.

In its attempt to compete with traditional supermarkets, Amazon has launched a service called Amazon Pantry which allows customers to select household items from a variety of 4,000 items. This service doesn't include frozen or fresh groceries. Amazon has been testing the service in London and is scheduled to roll out the service in other cities later this year.

Amazon's new Prime service is intended to complement the existing Prime subscriptions. It has also partnered with grocery stores to offer its delivery service. This includes a partnership with Prime and Morrisons that will allow Prime members to shop for their entire grocery online, with delivery the next day.

Currently, the service is only accessible currently in London and Home Counties. However, it will be expanded to other areas by 2021. To avail the service you'll need a valid postcode as well as an email address. The Amazon Fresh app will guide you through the process of selecting your groceries and deciding on a one-hour window for delivery.

The first till-less store opened in west London in 2021. It was the first venture for the company outside the US. The store was then shut along with two other locations in Wandsworth and East Sheen on Sunday. The stores were self-checkout so that customers could scan their mobiles to pay at the time they left.
