When you turn the key, the handle will be back in the upright position. Alternately, you can take off the strike plate to check whether the latch is properly aligned.

It is also possible to check the gap between the door and the frame to determine if it's misaligned. If the gap between the frame and the door is more than half an inch, it's most likely that your lock is not aligned properly.

Door frame fixings can be adjusted using an Allen key. After the fixings have been installed you can make sure to tighten them. Do not tighten them too much or they could make the door sag.

Applying lubricant to your lock is a good idea, particularly if you have an extremely heavy-glazed door. This will decrease pressure on the lock mechanism and stop it from breaking.
